Fall Sports Wind Down & the Wins Stack Up

As fall sports wind down, let’s take a look back at all the accomplishments achieved recently by the Oak Creek Knights!

The indestructible Isabella Ross has added another medal to her collection by winning her third straight sectional. With this achievement, Ross became eligible for the state tournament. In her freshman year, Ross finished 42nd in the state and improved to 13th in the state her sophomore year. She has now completed the 2020 WIAA state cross-country meet and has finished 5th in the state. By placing 5th, Ross has shattered the record for highest finish in OC girls cross-country history. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this young star!

The girls volleyball team edged out Franklin in straight sets to win the WIAA Regional Title. This victory advanced them to the Sectional Semifinals against the Muskego Warriors. Against the Warriors, the Knights fought valiantly, but came up short with Muskego winning in four sets. Although their season came to an end, the volleyball team had a successful run, remaining undefeated until the final match.

The boys volleyball team won its first WIAA playoff game on Friday against Racine St. Catherine’s in straight sets. Their next match was Franklin, with the Knights winning one match off them in regular season. However, the Sabers defeated the Knights, which put an end to Oak Creek’s season. The superb seniors on the team demonstrated amazing leadership and work ethic that will continue on within the program.

The Oak Creek football team had a thrilling victory against Freedom High School. In the final minute, Freedom scored a touchdown, which brought the team to one point behind. In an attempt to win, Freedom tried to fake an extra point, but the Knights intercepted the ball. With a tough defense, the Knights were able to run the clock down and win 21 to 20.

Most recently, playing without its top two defensive players due to quarantine last Friday night, the Oak Creek Varsity football team made no excuses and upset the No. 1 seeded Red Devils of Kenosha Bradford in round 1 of the WIAA playoffs by a score of 20-17.  Senior Zach Peterson rushed for a career high 201 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 77 and 53 yards in the first quarter to set the tone for the Knights. Freshman quarterback Cade Palkowski added a 3-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter.

Defensively, senior Craesean Slaton iced the game when he intercepted a Bradford pass with just over one minute to go in the game.  On the night, the Knights forced 5 Bradford turnovers. The team now travels to Hart Park this Thursday night to wrap up the season with a Level 2 contest against Marquette University High School.

Congratulations to Amber Behr for her commitment to Concordia University for softball. Also, Ellie Behring earned an amazing achievement when she committed to Winona State for golf. Good luck to both students.
