After the 2.5 million-square-foot, four-story Oak Creek Amazon fulfillment center was approved in Nov., 2018, it was finally opened on Oct. 18, 2020 for day one of its operation. This new introduction within the Oak Creek Community will bring in 1,500 new fulltime employment opportunities. There are positions still available for those interested.

“We’re thrilled to officially open our doors and join the Oak Creek community.”

Cody Voegerl, Amazon Oak Creek director of operations

The workplace has been designed so associates will work with robotics to pack and ship everything, just like other fulfillment centers. Amazon has pledged to follow current sanitation practices due to COVID-19, with safety audits and temperature checks conducted daily.

Amazon’s Support for Employees Around the World

All front-line employees and partners who were with the company throughout the month of June received a “thank you” bonus pay varying from $150 to $3,000. To ensure the safety of their employees, Amazon expects to invest approximately $10 billion on COVID-related initiatives to keep employees safe, and to make sure their customers are still receiving their orders within promised time. They have enhanced cleaning and social distancing measures, distributed masks for their employees, and implemented temperature checks across operations worldwide. Anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 will get extra time off with full pay.

Robots at Work

Amazon was first interested in warehouse robots when it bought Kiva Systems for $775 million in 2012. Now, it has more than 200,000 robotic vehicles nationwide. The robots are used in delivery and fulfillment centers around the U.S., aiding in shorter time consumption and faster transportation. Some observers have claimed that these warehouse robots have enabled Amazon to grow in online retail and logistics exponentially. Amazon has been regarded as the world’s largest online retailer for a long time, but it’s now also one of the world’s greatest masterminds, which is now local in Oak Creek.
