Behind the Voice

Our Tale

Journalism class organized the newspaper for years but was cancelled in 2019. Our team of students took up the mantle to form Journalism Club and continue Oak Creek High School’s Sword & Shield legacy. Journalism Club modernized the brand and continues to be “the voice of Knights” in a digital format. The Sword & Shield is currently managed by a team of high school students who each bring their own unique skills and interests to the table.

Our Quest

We strive above all to be “the voice of Knights.”

Our hopes are to engage and educate as many students and community residents in Oak Creek as possible, all the while aspiring for unquestionable quality.

Our Management Team

Project manager and editor-in chief, Riya Lahoti is passionate about politics and seeks a future career in law. An OCHS senior, she drives the political stories on the Sword & Shield with the committed and objective attitude required of journalists. In her free time, she loves binging on movies, working out, and going out.

Rebecca Zelten

Becca Zelten, social media manager, is a senior who likes to stretch herself. Between tennis and softball, Becca enjoys filmmaking and getting involved in school. Her favorite song is “Once in a Lifetime” by Talking Heads.

Lilly Nuck

Senior contributing writer Lilly Nuck is a senior at OCHS. She is very involved in music and participates in the all-female a cappella group at school, Ladies Knight. In her free time, she enjoys painting, hanging out with family/friends, cooking, and getting coffee! She loves to write about self-care and spreading positivity to others.

Ms. Carie Ferg, advisor of the Sword & Shield, is an English teacher at Oak Creek High School. With an extensive background in editing, publishing, and marketing, she is delighted to pass on her knowledge and passion for content creation to the team.
